Annapolis is the capital of the U.S. state of Maryland, as well as the county seat of Anne Arundel County. Situated on the Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Severn River, 25 miles (40 km) south of Baltimore and about 30 miles (48 km) east of Washington, DC, Annapolis is part of the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area. Its population was measured at 38,394 by the2010 census.
The city served as the seat of the Continental Congress in 1783–84 and was the site of the 1786 Annapolis Convention (which called for the Constitutional Convention held the following year) and the Annapolis Peace Conference, held in 2007. Annapolis is the home of the United States Naval Academy and the original campus of St. John's College.

The State House

The Maryland State House is the oldest in continuous legislative use in the United States.
It was in the Maryland State House that George Washington famously resigned his commission before the Continental Congress on December 23, 1783.

United States Naval Academy

The United States Naval Academy was founded in 1845 on the site of Fort Severn, and now occupies an area of land reclaimed from the Severn River next to theChesapeake Bay.

Annapolis, Maryland offers plenty of attractions for tourists, such as a tour of the United States Naval Academy and Historic Downtown Annapolis. Other activities include sightseeing tours along the water as well as beautiful parks and churches that are well known in the area.
The most visited park in the Annapolis area is called Quiet Waters Park, which allows visitors to participate in biking, birdwatching, kayaking, running, picnics, ice skating and even provides an area where people can bring their dogs to freely run around and play in the water. In the summertime this park will put on evening concerts that are open to everyone in a laid back setting. A religious landmark that is incredibly popular in Annapolis is St. Anne's church. There has been a total of three St. Anne's churches in existence from 1704-present time and has welcomed famous figures such as Francis Scott Key, William Paca and Samuel Chase to this place of worship. The large compass on top of the church signifies the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the mission of St. Anne's Parish to the Annapolis area.


Annapolis is served by the Anne Arundel County Public Schools system.
Founded in 1896, Annapolis High School has an internationally recognized IB International ProgramSt. Mary's High Schooland Elementary School are located in downtown Annapolis on Spa Creek. St. Anne's School of Annapolis, Eastport Elementary SchoolAleph Bet Jewish Day SchoolAnnapolis Area Christian SchoolSt. Martins Lutheran SchoolSevern School, and Indian Creek School are also in the Annapolis area. The Key School, located on a converted farm in the neighborhood of Hillsmere, has also served Annapolis for over 50 years. Anne Arundel County's alternative high school, Mary E.
